This succulent plant is native to Namibia and South Africa, where it thrives in dry, arid climates. The plant is characterized by its thick, bottle-like trunk which stores water, and its deciduous, fleshy leaves that fall off during the dry season to conserve water. The plant produces clusters of small, greenish-yellow flowers in the summer, followed by distinctive, bright red berries.
